Do you use McGraw Hill Wonders curriculum? Who wants to spend all summer creating activities for students? Relax and save time! Creating third grade activities aligning with Wonders is time consuming. We all need engaging materials for our students. Students need to practice what they learn. So, we made McGraw Hill Wonders supplements for grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, writing, and more so you don’t have to. We are writing a series of blog posts to provide ideas on how to use our resources.

Help! Wonders Grammar Work!!

Grammar is a piece of the curriculum where we were always hunting for materials. You do not have to spend countless hours hunting for resources. We did. Because of this, we finally opted to make our own. Looking at each week’s grammar skills, we created worksheets to help you assess student learning. Our worksheets can be used as a formative assessment or summative assessment. You choose:) Here is a picture of one of the grammar worksheets in weeks 1 and 2:

Use these Grammar Supplements for Assessment or Practice!

Sentence Fragment Worksheet Answer Key

This activity can be used for an assessment or for student practice

Our Wonders supplemental resources help you save precious time by providing you with engaging student activities to reinforce skills that are taught.

We provide “Answer Keys” for all of our grammar activities

We would teach the concept of sentences and run fragmeht. Our district uses Thinking Maps. First, create a Circle Map.

Here is an example of an empty Circle Map.

Thinking Maps- Circle Map

Circle Maps are one of the Thinking Maps that help students “Brainstorm” ideas!

Label the inside circle “sentence”. Put the definition of a sentence at the top of your anchor chart. Students brainstorm sentence examples. Once students have brainstormed their ideas, start a discussion. Discuss and teach while the students brainstorm. After whole group discussion, have students “think, pair-share” more sentence examplets.

Fragments versus Sentences

Next, repeat and label the 2nd Circle Map “Fragment”. Once the anchor chart is complete, have student practice each type with an “elbow buddy”. After practicing the concept over the week, use the assessment. It can be used for grading, formative, or summative assessment.

We have created supplements by week, by unit and by year. Here are some links:
